Since Surf Life Saving was established in 1907, over 670,000 lives have been saved. In 2021/22 our Surf Life Saving active members were involved in 8,916 rescues, 58,342 first aid treatments and more than 1.63 million preventative actions. Surf Life Saving volunteers carried out more than 1.31 million patrol hours.

Job Description

Responsibilities

This position is integral to our mission, driving forward key initiatives and contributing to the overall success of our team. Your expertise will shape our strategic direction and operational efficiency, directly impacting our innovation, growth, and the maintenance of SLSA's iconic Australian brand.

Support the implementation of SLSA national events as directed by the Event Manager and Site Operations Manager. The Event & Operations Coordinator plays a critical administrative and 
operational role in the preparation, planning, delivery and review of all national SLSA sporting events.

  • Event Coordination:

    • Assist with planning, logistics, and on-site operations, including travel, accommodation, and venue requirements.
    • Manage entry requirements, volunteer coordination, and event technology needs.
    • Support infrastructure setup, safety compliance, and contingency planning.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:

    • Build strong relationships with local councils, surf clubs, contractors, and internal teams.
    • Collaborate with volunteers and event personnel to ensure smooth event execution.
  • Operational Excellence:

    • Develop site plans, manage tenders, and oversee equipment hire.
    • Coordinate timelines, bump-in/out schedules, and on-site safety measures.
  • Financial Oversight:

    • Assist in budget preparation and ensure events are delivered within approved budgets.
    • Monitor and report on budget variations.
  • Reporting and Communication:

    • Prepare reports, including post-event evaluations and data analysis, to improve future events.

Desired Skills and Experience

Who You Are

Our ideal candidate will have:

1) Qualifications:

  • Certificate / Diploma / Bachelor’s level sports management or event management 
  • qualification or commensurate on job experience at same or higher level (essential)
  • Project Management training and qualifications (preferred)
  • Risk management training and qualifications (preferred)
  • Senior first aid (preferred)
  • Plant Machine License – Fork Lift, Telehandler, Skid Steer (preferred)

2) Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience assisting the planning and delivery of significant national events.
  • Understanding and entry level experience of work health and safety, risk management and compliance requirements relating to delivering events.
  • Understanding of the day to day demands of event management.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Surf Life Saving philosophies, principles, events, procedures, processes and regulations on a national level.
  • Experience of working within a volunteer and/or sports administration not for profit environment.
  • Basic financial management skills
  • Construction trade industry experience

3) Skills and Attributes:

  • Demonstrated communication skills across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including high level attention to detail, together with negotiation and consultation skills.
  • Analytical and decision-making skills – able to identify problems and develop solutions.
  • High competency level of MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Demonstrated commitment, drive and initiative in identifying ideas and translating  them into plans to achieve event and organisational outcomes.
